Matt, try creating a new world with the seed -621171962 I have found many bats (even some coming to the surface) from the caves just south of spawn. I wasn't looking for bats at the time (I was testing boats, actually) but the bats popped up. Interesting fact: bats can spawn (and bat eggs work) on peaceful mode too!
Thanks, you're right. I tried the game with that seed and I could find bats. I thought the bats wasn't generated, because I couldn't find any of them. They're very usefull to find caves.
