Are you sure you did not switch to one of the other available world slots for the realm?
What exactly happens (messages, etc) when you try to restore the realm using one of the backups? This is different from uploading a local world.

I did not switch slots. When i go to the backups, they download to the console. From there, i go to manage the realm, and after all my attempts, the only path i can figure out to place the back up in, is to replace and choose the backup. It begins to export the backup to the server (my guess) and then enters an 'Initializing Upload' phase but never completes it
Realm backups are kept on the server, though you can also download backups to your device if you want.
You should be able to restore from one of the backups listed on the realm world without downloading to your console. This is usually much faster than downloading and re-uploading.
How long did you wait for the upload to complete? It can take quite a long time (several hours for a large world) and does generally stay on the Initializing Upload for much of that time.
Thank you for the information, i did take a while to download. The realm is fixed. Just unsure how the reset occurred in the first place
