Steps to reproduce
1. Create a LAN server.
2. Get a player to connect to the LAN server.
3. Get the connected player to sleep in a bed when looking directly down on it.
4. Do F3+B and look around the player's head.

This is by design.
How is this by design, the hitbox is too small and the player can't get hurt unless you hit them in the right spot.
