What I expected to happen was...:
for it to join a server
What actually happened was...:
it ran out of memory when i joined the game
Steps to Reproduce:
1. sign in
2. join a game
3. then it ran out of memory
Environment
OS: Windows 8 (ver 5.1, arch x86)
Java: 1.6.0_10-rc (by Sun Microsystems Inc.)
Launcher: 1.0.8 (bootstrap 4)
Minecraft: 1.6.2 (updated Mon Jul 08 15:24:08 MDT 2013)

Did you mess with the profiles on the launcher? If so, you may have lowered the amount of ram that Java starts with. If not, try to allocate more ram using the bottom box in the profile editor.
