MC-38039Water is Visable When Directly Adjacent to Ice
Supposedly, around snapshot 13w42a, water would no longer render through ice if the ice was directly adjacent to the water. However, this is not the case in 1.7.2. This makes for some very ugly rendering issues. Note that the bug is that the ice is VISIBLE.

I think the water transparent through ice feature was a bug, as said by Dinnerbone here.

Yes, that was a bug. that it wasn't rendering through ice. It is supposed to do that.
I'm sorry to dig out an old WAI ticket, but i'm having trouble to understand why the attached render_issue.png is WAI. (I mean is it?)
As of 1.8.7 this grid like patter still ocurrs and seems very out of place.
If it is a compromise for other advantages of the ice culling i'm fine with it. Just a little confused here.
