@e affects players but no argument
I'm not sure if using @e alone is suppose to affect the player itself but according to the wiki, players are not an entity: http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Data_values/Entity_IDs
So, either there is a missing argument that you can use to prevent players from being affected like type=!player or the bug is that it shouldn't effect player at all.
Evidence: do /effect @e 2 14 10 and you will freeze (or any other potion effect and it will be applied to you)
