Crashed while trying to create chracter for new player 2 on switch, corrupted main save
I tried to add player 2 on switch.
It prompted to create a new character for that player, he hit the button to do so and the game crashed back to the Nintendo main screen.
When starting the game back up, once I click a button to continue from the PRESS ANY BUTTON screen, the game immediately crashes with "The software was closed because an error occurred.", and then back to the main screen of the Switch.
If I turn off automatic backup of save state to the cloud, and then go into data management in System settings, delete my savegame from the Switch unit, and then restart the game, it immediately progresses through the settings screen and starts up the game.
If I now to back to the main menu, close the game, again delete the local savestate, again go into the cloud backup settings for the game and restore savestate from the cloud (which unfortunately looks like it was backed up after we tried to add player 2), again it crashes.
Basically, my savestate was corrupted and my character and progress now appears to be lost.
I found a way to reproduce the bug (warning, this will corrupt your savedata, but not always, so you might have to repeat it a few times, I did it twice and then it corrupted my savedata)
- Get to character selection
- Connect a second controller, or go to the main screen and switch to individual joycons for 2 players, and go back to the game
- Hit the Stick on the second controller to add player 2
- It will ask you to create a new character, don't do this
- Go to the main switch screen, and close the game with X (that is, UP button on the P1 controller, will be Y if you use a joycon sideways)
- Restart the game
- When you get to PRESS ANY BUTTON, do so, and the game might crash. If it does, it will now crash permanently until you delete the corrupted savedata.
