This is the mojang version of the game, bought from mojang.
Downloaded the launcher from mojang.
click play
Starts some sort of title screen (not x box studios animation) minecraft cube spins in bottom right corner.

Turned out to be an Audio driver issue after a recent windows update, I reinstalled the Audio Driver from the laptop website and the game now runs correctly
Ok, good to know your issue has been resolved.
Since crash reports like this are sent to Mojang automatically, I'm going to close this ticket.
