Characters getting duplicated across Xbox profiles after splitscreen multiplayer sessions
My 2 kids, wife, and I frequently play multiplayer on the same device. Each of us uses our own Xbox profile / Microsoft account for our own characters. On several occasions after playing together, I have found other players' characters on my profile. Usually they are my son's, but this last time was my wife's. These characters still exist on their profiles, but now ALSO exist on mine.
This last time, I had actually begun using one of these "cross-synced" players for several days, had unlocked Apocalypse mode, upgraded and sold lots of gear, leveled up, etc. The character seems to have "re-synced" from my son's profile, so I lost all that progress and ended up with all the new gear he has collected in the last few days.
So far I have not lost any characters I created, nor lost any progress except on the character that came over from my son's account. I have not had this experience after my weekly online multiplayer sessions with other friends. This has happened on between 4 and 6 occasions so far. We can't duplicate it on demand, but it has happened a significant portion of the times we've all played together.
For additional context:
- On Series X
- Automatic software updates are on
- Playing via Game Pass
- Issue has been occurring for at least 2-3 weeks
- Bought Season Pass DLC sometime after the first occurrence, this does not seem to have affected the behavior
- We have not yet seen any instances of this occurring on any of the other profiles
- Mine is the "main" profile - Game Pass is in my name, and the console is set to my primary device
- Both kids are set up as kids' profiles
- On 2 occasions, it MAY HAVE happened even when I was not playing. My wife and son were playing together and I ended up with one of my son's characters on my profile.
