I have the same issue. Adding a new installation (a new version of optifine for example) makes the screen briefly flicker, but i could not replicate this a second time.

Hello there, according to your issue, I also facing the same issue as your bug submission, and I have found the problem and the solution for it.
Problem: It could be your Optifine or Iris with Fabric Loader libraries (If you have it installed) corrupted during the Minecraft launcher update process.
Solution:
1. Go to your '.minecraft' folder, and find 'launcher_profiles.json' (Create a backup before opening it), open and locate any game profiles that use Optifine or Iris with Fabric Loader.
2. Check the version of Optifine or Iris w/ Fabric Loader that you are using. Then go to their official website and re-download the installer for that particular version.
3. Finally, close your Minecraft launcher, re-install the libraries, and restart your Minecraft launcher. Your issue should be solved.
PS: The solution is work for me. If you have tried the given solution, and still not solve the issue, it could be another source of the problem.
