duplicates
In addition to the above, I also tried 1.5.2 and 1.5.1 with the new launcher without success. The error message is unchanged.
I also deleted Minecraft.app and ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft and reinstalled without success.
I have a similar problem, I have windows 7 and the same error message pops up for me in the console, BUT minecraft NEVER opens up, not even for a second.
Exact same problem as Robert there must be a way anyone?
Same problem
I had an almost identical problem and error message with a Macbook running Mac OS 10.6.8 - the problem resolved immediately when I updated java to 1.6.0_51.
For update see http://www.java.com/en/download/help/mac_java_update.xml
I hope this works for you also. Good luck!
