No sound in Minecraft 1.7.2 when using newest MC Launcher
Dear support,
I have gone thru Minecraft forums and this seems to be known issue. As I operate Minecraft 1.7.2 server that had great community, after this issue came into the account, I have lost over than 90% of players.
So far is seems that folder .minecraft/assets/virtual is not being created by latest MCL (old legacy launcher does it just fine). Idk the way how to force MCL to do so (not implemented?). The folder contains all sounds as needed by version 1.7.2 - virtual folder structure described in file .minecraft/assets/indexes and also refered in .json file inside ./versions/1.7.2 folder. I have tested some older versions like 1.6.4 and it is the same. Version 1.7.3+ does not use virtual structure anymore so runs w/o any issue.
I could prepare some unofficial fix (patch) that installs missing virtual directory but imho it will not comply the EULA, could I receive some sort of approval from Mojang/Microsoft side? My goal is to propose legacy community some kind of easy fix.
Thanks in advance.
Michal

No sound in Minecraft 1.7.2 when using newest MC Launcher
Dear support,
I have gone thru Minecraft forums and this seems to be known issue. As I operate Minecraft 1.7.2 server that had great community, after this issue came into the account, I have lost over than 90% of players. Only known fix is to use old, legacy launcher. Issue is quite simple: no sound or music in game when using latest official launcher. Minor issue is that icon of the game is missing (but this is only cosmetic).Seems to be connected to LWJGL OpenAL according log. I have tried other computer including manual OpenAL installation - not helped at all. Latest versions of MC works just fine.

1.7.2 is not supported. But you could try deleting .minecraft/assets and letting the launcher redownload all the sounds.
Hello,
thanks for your reply. It does not help at all, what do you mean not supported? Why then it is available in the MCL, please? As other legacy versions that may face the same issue. Btw user could use old legacy launcher, they are still struggle to keep it in legacy version as it auto downloads latest launcher that does not support 1.7.2. Please reopen the case and forward it to R&D. Java version should remain community version as proposed before, therefore MCL shall support legacy versions or R&D shall allow use of the old legacy launcher as there are many and many servers on 1.7.2.
Thanks in advanced
Michal
Hello,
Or could R&D provide way how to fix version 1.7.2 after downloaded using latest MCL, please? I could prepare some kind of software fixer for the official MCL to allow non-experienced player to simply fix the issue without a hassle.
Thanks in advance.
Michal
Who is R&D?
Anyway, with "1.7.2 is not supported", null meant that older versions won't be updated to fix any bugs or other issues (as there is a later version in which the issue probably is fixed already).
Tthis probably is an issue with your computer or your Minecraft setup, please use the community support link below. This bug tracker is for bugs exclusively.
PS: If I recall it correctly, sounds need some time to be downloaded in older versions. Perhaps wait some time ingame and restart the game. Not sure about that though.

Hello,
thanks for the reply,
Imho it is not an issue w/ OpenAL at all. This seems to be connected to new organisation of assets folder introduced in latest versions (I am trying to fix it on my own). Also please note, that it was tested on different computer with same outcome. Also this issue is connected to MCL itself, not 1.7.2 version as legacy launcher works fine until updated.

Thanks

Hello,
quoting user gebril from minecraftforum.net that seem to be right about the issue:
Original thread: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/support/unmodified-minecraft-client/2793828-new-launcher-2-0-806-no-sound-in-1-7-2
Also note, no legacy folder being created by latest MCL.
Michal
Hello,
additional update,
seems that there is way how to fix it. I have downloaded .minecraft/assets folder using old launcher (backed up), removed whole .minecraft folder then I have fired latest MCL and let it download MC 1.7.2. After I have deleted newly generated .minecraft/assets folder and copied the backup there. Voala, sounds work. Also I am able to use latest version of MC or Legacy one using MCL, so it does not break anything. Imho I am unable to distribute whole assets dir as it will not comply EULA therefore I am unable to prepare some kind of automated fix tool.
I will dig deeper to see what I will find.
Regards
Michal
Alright, leaving this open. Mojang doesn't have a R&D team as far as I know, so you have to wait until a developer sees this ticket.
Perhaps you could update the description and the summary of your issue to include the things you found out in the meantime to make it easier for the developers to understand what the issue is.
Voilà it is
