5 blocks above my players head, i placed a Glass Block and 9 Snow Layers on top of that Glass Block. Then i removed the glass block pleased to see that the block didnt fall BUT i also noticed that light was able to come through it, while snow particles fell through the block as well simular to placing a Snow Layer on block of Leaves.
However if you were to craft a Snow Block using snow balls, that block would not be transpaernt and no snowparticles will go through.
Is this a bug or is this intended? I would imagine its a bug eventhough i dont want it to be one because its really a useful feature. Thing is, i dont want to spend a year making buildings using the feature, only to have it be bug that gets fixed, ruining all of my builds.

How Ice formation works:
According to Minecraft.gamepedia.com in the section talking about "ice" (and in my experience with the formation of ice in minecraft), water source blocks are only supposed to turn to ice when it is exposed to the sky, the light level next to it is below 13, and there has to be at least one block next to it that isnt a water source block (though gamepedia just says water). Due to this, water is supposed to freeze from outter area of a pool of water in a cold biome, to the inner area
Problem:
Water seems to completely ignore the "no horizontal water source block" rule (one block next to the water source block must not be water), and now just freezes anywhere. I was standing at the edge of a 50 x 50 pool, and noticed that the first water source block to freeze was directly in the CENTER of my pool! Followed by a bunch of random water sorce blocks freezing just everywhere in my pool.
How I figured it was a bug**:
The pool that i was just talking about, is in my minecraft world and is exposed to sky light. It has remaimed in the form of water over the past year because i put a solid block over the outter most water source blocks of the pool so that they wouldnt freeze because of the lowered light level. Without those blocks freezing, the rest of the water sorce blocks couldnt freeze because every water source block would not have nothing but water surrounding it.

Snow fall's (Rain in a snowy biome) creation of snow layers
What I expected to happen: During snow fall, snow layers should slowy stack up, and when it stop snowing there should be sort of a balanced layer of snow layers in an area around the location the player was at most.
What actually happens (The Bug): after few times of it snowing naturally in minecraft, youll notice that every 8 blocks the
ir is long line of 8 layers of snow, and in between the gap is 1 to 3 layers of snow. You would also expect that if it where to snow again, the snow would eventually fill in the gaps but it never doesSnow fall's (Rain in a snowy biome) creation of snow layers

So in the end, it leaves your snow biome looking like its just covered with lines of snow blocks. I urge this to be looked into as its a really big bug that will not go unnoticed by anyone staying in a snowy biome
Its really bad because the game autosaves so often. Sometimes im building bridge to close a gap and randomly fall and die because my character stops placing blocks. I look up and see the autosave icon at the top right of screen and
it happens everytime. Sometimes the autosave icon shows up around 3 seconds later but most of the time its there and when i try to build with it,nothingworks right.
Please help, i cant disable autosave and it really makes the game a pain to play when i fall into a lava pit or something and lose all my xp and gear

Normally hostile mobs dont spawn on transparent blocks like glass and ice however something has changed. I have a transparent ice cave in the Soul Sand Valley of the Nether and im finding Skeletons, Zombie Piglins, even Ghast spawning directly on top of ice. They dont usually do it if i just sit there but if i leave the certain area
andcome back to it they are everywhere! It really sucks cause i cant access my nether base anymore, especially with the Ghast as theres such high risk for them to blow important things up. Please help, this is happening in the overworld too it seems.Normally hostile mobs dont spawn on transparent blocks like glass and ice however something has changed. @[Helper]GoldenHelmet Wait im confused, i do not wish to request a feature, i wanted report that the water freezing is not doing it in the way that Minecraft wiki says its supposed to.
Minecraft wiki tells you when something is java or bedrock, but in there it doesnt say either or for the way ice forms, which typically means its supposed to work across all editions
It reads
"Snowy biomesEdit
See also: Ice farming
Water source blocks in a snowy biome eventually freeze into ice if exposed to the sky from directly above, the light level immediately adjacent to the water block on all sides is less than 13, and there is at least one horizontally adjacent non-water block. This can happen at any time of day, and in any weather condition. If the highest adjacent light level is 12, an ice block alternately melts and re-freezes when it receives a block tick.
Water also freezes into ice in cold biomes, as long as the altitude is high enough for snowfall."

Right, okay i will try. Thank you for the help!
Glorious day! Thank you for the information! I can have a deep water pool now 😁
I think this may have been resolved with the fix to "top snow", ill check once i recieve the update
fixed! Idk how to close this case though
No i have had ice farms that never spawned hostile mobs on ice, preventing me from needing to place torches everywhere for safety. I remember even being in ice berg biomes where all the hostile mobs would only be on packed ice. Somethings happened, even the old minecraft.fandom site about spawn proofing still has it listed as a way to prevent hostile mobs from spawning, and a popular youtuber in the mincraft community named Ibxtoycat had posted videos of him spawn proofing his nether with ice before. Ive used it in my nether before, had an ice castle there for the longest time.
Edit: nevermind i see it was changed a long time in 1.13 tho i see it listed for just java i cant find bedrock. I play this game on and off and really didnt feel like it had been so long since i could use ice for no hostile mobs. Sad change that i dont really understand necessity of, thanks though.. apologies for your time..
Now i wonder what other transparent blocks have been changed to allow mob spawning. I hope leaves havent been taken out too. Do you know if two snow layers still works?
