That's what I was trying to find out and couldn't find anything about the world generator changing. I tried 1.6.1 and it recreated the 'original world'. So now I'm happy. I can recreate the world in 1.6.1 and then play it in 1.7.4.
So I guess it's not a bug, just a feature.
