On the first screenshot we can see how smooth lightning looks in minecraft 1.7.2, with hard edges, on the second picture, its actually smooth, back in minecraft 1.4.7.
What I was expecting to happen:
Smooth lightning to look like in 1.4.7 and before

Smooth lightning has been working like that since minecraft 1.5

You are not supposed to have water in the nether in any situation
That has nothing to do with glowstone/slabs going upwards, also glitches in the floor.
Someone else here from BdoubleO?
Anyway, I can confirm this. I have a natural village (not even made by me) and they just stay in the 3 middle houses.
