I have just created a Minecraft realm (read: reactivated my account) and I am able to join it. It works for me regardless of the computer I am using.
My friend, who I whitelisted and sent an invite for the realm, cannot join the realm. It does not work for my friend regardless of the computer.
The logs do not show anything suspicious, here are the last lines:
[18:56:27] [Client thread/INFO]: Realms library version == 1.13.4 [18:56:27] [MCO Compatability Checker #1/INFO]: Realms is available for this userCan you fix this issue? It worked 6-12 months ago for both of us.
This is a blocking issue for both of us and if it does not get fixed soon or if there is no feedback from the devs, I will cancel my realms subscription.

This is a blocking issue for both of us since we wanted to play together and using a server I pay for is the easiest solution. If it does not get fixed soon or if there is no feedback from the devs, I will cancel my realms subscription.

This issue has been solved with the latest Minecraft release. It can be closed.
I had exactly the same issue. It failed for the first attempt (on Windows) but it worked on the second attempt.
