The changes to inventory management are nice, but they are causing issues with standard gameplay.
-When right clicking manually to place single items from a stack into any valid inventory slot (such as the crafting window), sometimes 2 items will be placed down instead of only 1.
-Sometimes the hold-right click gets stuck and you will fill whatever slots you mouse over.
-Sometimes stacks will repeatedly divide depending on how many slots you mouse over (for example, divide a stack of 20 into a stack of 10, then try to place the other stack of 10 in an adjacent slot which places a stack of 5 down, leaving you 5 items on the cursor). I included a screenshot of the result of this bug.
-There is a lot of latency on mouse events in the inventory screen in general, even doing simple crafting like making sticks takes twice as long, especially when extra items are being placed in the crafting grid. These problems are all repeatable playing Minecraft at 120fps, its not likely it is a hardware bottleneck. I am unable to play Minecraft until this is resolved due to the decreased inventory efficiency.

I've been toying around with this issue, and if I right click with a stack in my hand to place a single item in the crafting grid, any empty square I mouse over in the next 150ms or so will be filled with a single item as well. What this essentially translates into is it being impossible to quickly craft anything, because it equally quickly makes a huge mess.

There seems to be an issue with Java input where if you click, Minecraft will continue the click operation for a short period (between 50-250ms)
For example, if you right click to place an item, it will function as if you have held down the right click for 200ms, so in the case of Minecrafts' new inventory management, it will fill any empty squares you pass over with an item from the stack you are holding.
There might need to be some optimization so input latency can return to pre-1.5 status. Players should be able to manipulate inventory as fast as they can click.

I updated jinput.jar to the latest version and it has appeared to cut down the lag to about 50-100ms, but the issue is still very prevalent, indicating something that has changed in Minecrafts' code.

AMD HD 6950 1GB - Driver version 13.1 and 13.3 beta

In that case, Tom, the problem is that it happens intermittently when dragging the stack around. Not only that, but it only works when I am dragging via right-click, which means I am only working with a half-stack to start with at best. Additionally, it does not divide all the items between all the slots.
I noticed this problem is only happening on my desktop, and not my laptop.
My desktop had an HD 6950 and a Core 2 Quad Q9550, and my laptop has an i7 and HD 5870 mobility.
This seems to be video driver related, for specific hardware setups.
Apparently my desktop is on 13.3 beta 2, which has apparently been reported by AMD as having OpenGL issues. I am going to install 13.3 beta 3 and see if it fixes the issue.
Please change this to "solved".
Upgrading to the latest Catalyst drivers more or less completely solved the issue. A single right click is still causing a 2nd item to be placed in any slot, but it is happening MUCH less often and it is likely only happening because of the beta drivers.
We are using 1.6.2 and this seems to occur with any wiring-based mods we have. For example, we are lagging on a particular X-axis tangental to a 30-block circle around our IC2 e-net. As long as you are in render distance, being within about 5 blocks of this x-axis will throw the root.tick.level outputs. What's interesting is even after you move out of the high tick zone it can take a minute or two for the tick in the F3 menu graph to return to normal. It may just be an artifact of the graph, or it could be related to the bug.
Either way, I hope this gets fixed in 1.7!
EDIT: The lag effect is only observed when a certain distance to the NORTH AND EAST (-Z and +X).
EDIT 2: Note that this is only on SMP, when played with the exact same settings in SSP the tick lag issue was NOT observed.
I have not been able to duplicate this bug since updating to 1.7.2. That said, I cannot confirm that it has been fixed.
