not sure why but i noticed fog in modern verisons seem to be very sudden and as i mentioned, just doesn't look like fog and seems to look really bad for some reason
not sure if it counts as a bug, if theres a better place to put this if it isn't. then at very least let me know where that might be possibly
i'll post an image of the modern fog, and then what it used to look like in older verisons compared to now
Either way, just know it looked more atmospheric before where currently it just looks really bad and just as bad if not worse then the fog used to hide unloaded polygons in old games

And no the color change does not refer to void fog either, it used to completely change based on the enviorment the player was in, which made sense since you really don't wanna see the sky colors of the fog while inside a cave, unless you wanna relive classic/infdev
Steps to Reproduce
Go into a cave
Place Torches
Stay in the cave for as long as you like, and cave sounds will just simply not play
They will play if you are in 100% Darkness but This situlation is likely to never happen unless its on purpose, making it where a player is more likely never going to hear cave sounds unless they are trying to do so on purpose
Mood Meter Takes too long to Fill resulting in Cave sounds Never playing unless the player stays in complete darkness which will usually not happen duo to Torches being placed

i Don't know if that is intended or not, but either way it means No one is ever going to Hear the cave sounds unless they stay in darkness on purpose, but cause the player wants to explore caves without mobs Spawning and has to place Torches to do so, Chances are The cave sounds will never be given a chance to play because of This unless the Player is specificly doing so on Purpose

Pretty much just makes it where Cave sounds don't exist in normal gameplay unless that thing i mentioned before is done

This does Not Help the Fact You have to wait 5 Mins in Darkness to even Hear a Cave sound, so Combine those 2 things together and yeah, You'll just never hear them play

doesn't matter if its modded, i don't have anything that touches the mood meter so am still reporting it since that part of the game specificly is still fully vanilla and unmodded
most of the mods am using just mostly effect the terrain generation (mainly just the beta 1.7.3 world generator being readded with a mod) and some gameplay elements alongside adding some extra mobs and items but otherwise, the mood meter should be 100% untouched and still be functioning as it would in vanilla
Edit: Also its highly unlikely theres even any mods in general that effect it since all it does it determine if a cave sound plays or not, and i don't got anything that adds or changes anything related to it
and only thing i do got if anything is a mod that just adds reverb based on the enviorment, which even that am pretty sure isn't going to be touching the mood meter either
infact, just to make it easier, i'll give a list of the mods
architectury
betterarcheology
cloth-config
connectedglass
consolesounds (all it does is add the menu sounds from console)
CreativeCore
Dripsounds (water dripping sounds)
Fabric API
Fabric Seasons
Fabric Seasons Extras
fallingleaves
fallingtrees
FogLooksGoodNow
friendsandfoes
FromTheFog
fusion
Geckolib
grizzlybear
indium
iris-mc
jei (just enough items, basicly too many items mod for fabric)
Kiwi
lambdynamiclights
lithium
modern-beta
modmenu
more_mobs
moreslasbsstairsandwalls
NostalgicTweaks (all this does it make it so some of the old beta and alpha features can be used still, and yes i've tried checking it already just incase, aint got anything in relation to the mood meter)
Patchouli
simplehats
simplepipes
SnowRealMagic
snowyleavesplus
sodium
soundphysic's (the reverb one i mentioned)
spawnanimations
supermartijn642corelib
trinkets
villager-hats
wildlife
Xaeros_Minimap
yet-another-config-lib
And Thats basicly all the mods, and yea not a single one does anything with the mood meter
and only one that could is nostalgicTweaks which i've already checked and doesn't got anything that does, so mood meter is still 100% vanilla
just mostly mods that make the game like it was in beta with the terrain generation and some of the old mech's that existed back then with a few extra things that look vanilla but are modded like extra mobs
Either way, you can still easily test it by just playing 1.20.2, or even 1.20.1 which is what am actually on
and yes am aware, what am saying it is it appears like its straight up broken and just never reaches 100
which is extremely idiotic since not all mods heavily modify the game and in this instance while yet it is quite a bit modified, there are still some things that are pretty much untouched and still functioning exactly as they do in vanilla (such as the mood meter which is what this whole thing is about)
Realisticly everything else should just be forgotten about since This is about the mood meter which as i mentioned already is litterally untouched, so it doesn't even matter that anything else is modded
and Yes i realize mods can introduce bugs that wouldn't exist normally, so anything else it would make since to say it cannot be valid duo to mods
but for this one specificly you really can't since there isn't a single thing even touching or modifing the mood meter in anyway since none of the mods do anything to it, so the mood meter is still 100% vanilla
still irritating since in this situlation the mods are not doing anything to the mood meter, so even if am usin mods that part of the game at the very least is still 100% vanilla, and its that specificly that i was tryin to do a bug report on, and heck it may not even be a bug but just the rewrite of the mood meter from whatever mojang did in 2020 just being broken duo to whatever was done to it
but whatever i guess, just ignore this and invalid it even if that part of it is still completely vanilla that am tryin to report on
went there before and there was nothing i could find that lets me give feedback
uh, timmy
The problem is to do with modern minecrafts fog not looking like fog?, i posted those images of beta to compare since in beta the fog actually looks like fog where in modern minecraft (1.20.4) it doesn't, and its on PC
none of your solutions will work as this is a problem specificly with the latest verison of the game
right, well the fog looks really crappy now because of it, to where you can't even call it fog, pretty much to the point that you might as well remove it at this point, since it looks no different to there not being any fog at all
seems i found another issue
but yea, the fog color one is strange since, i don't know if it was changed or if it is infact bugged, but i know in older verisons it would of changed based on light level sorta, so if you were in a cave the fog was almost pitch black, but changed when torches were placed down
(of course it also depended on if you were outside or inside, and if it was night time or not, since if it was night time and you were placing torches it wouldn't change while night time and just stay black)
