On my CraftBukkit 1.6.2 server, I found that with chat set to commands only would close the game if you didn't enter a command while chatting.

How to reproduce:
1: Open up a world in MC 1.8
2: Enter the spectator gamemode (/gamemode 3)
3: Spectate a mobAs they look around, new chunks will not render due to the new performance improving updates.
