There is already a temporary fix for this issue, which can be found at:
MCL-5291The temporary fix doesn't work for long, as the Native launcher updater decides to again run the 39.85MB and again gives me the error code 5. What I have found that fixes the error code 5 message for me is the following:
If you renamed that .tmp file to Minecraft.exe and left it in the tmp folder, just recopy that minecraft.exe file back over into the NEW Minecraft folder you create from the instructions given in the temporary fix, and this for me, gets me past the Native launcher updater. This temporary fix only works for so long however and then the Native launcher updater decides to run again, giving the error code 5.
Mojang, can't you just reinstate the original launcher that did work, until you iron out all the bugs with this new launcher? Or is there a way to turn off that damned Native launcher updater?
Just last night and the couple of days before today which is June 13th 2017, I was playing the newest Minecraft version, 1.12 here on the computer. So as of late, the Minecraft Updater runs, it gives a message that it can't complete or whatever, and error code 5.
There is a temporary fix, to take the .tmp file rename it to Minecraft.exe and then make a new folder called Minecraft, put the renamed .exe file in the new Minecraft folder, and it works.
Every now and then, the Updater runs for unknown reasons, and again gives an error code 5 message. So, in order to fix THIS issue, I take the file I renamed from .tmp to Minecraft.exe, copy it over the existing .exe file in the new Minecraft folder I had made previously, and everything works.
This temporary fix for getting around the Updater issue, is now, 100% broken and is not working at all to get the game working.
MOJANG: IF YOU GUYS READ THESE BUG REPORTS, AT THE MOMENT I CAN NOT PLAY MINECRAFT. Your new launcher is broken. It is EXTREMELY frustrating as I spent money on your product that seems broken.
********************************************************************************************************************I have found a NEW Temporary solution to this issue. So the problem in the error message box is something that tmpLauncher.tmp can't be moved to Minecraft.exe, error code 5. What I did was copied out from the tmp folder, the tmpLauncher.tmp file, and pasted it into the Minecraft folder, and everything worked after that.

I created a folder in the Downloads folder, and I named that folder, Minecraft. So all the work I have been doing, is within that folder, and not the .minecraft folder. It looks like all the .minecraft folder does, is holds your saves, resource packs and mods mostly.

Is there ANY motivation to get this issue fixed or not?? Didn't know I was paying for and supporting products that work one minute and don't work the next.
Minecraft launcher is100% brokenMinecraft launcher is still giving issues.
I was able to play Minecraft between 6 and 7 different times throughout this past week. I double clicked on the same icon I've been using to play Minecraft about 10 minutes ago, and now for no explainable reason, I was kicked back to the launcher screen, with this gray message box that says:
Error
Game Crashed
An unexpected issue occurred and the game has crashed. We're sorry for the inconvenience. Exit Code: 0
But I haven't done or changed anything. It literally went from working, to not working.
EDIT: So I tried clicking the Play button on the launcher screen, I got that error message two more times, and now, it's working. But that error message coming up shouldn't be coming up if the game works initially and there are no changes to the PC.

I have attached my launcher_log.txt file if it helps.

@andzej I've already done that. The launcher works, but there are times when it won't work. And the times it won't work are random. The reason it randomly doesn't work is because the Native launcher updater runs itself when I try to run Minecraft, gives me the error code 5, and I have to copy over the .tmp file I renamed to the Minecraft folder I created, per instructions relating to
MCL-5291.I also had the same problem with zombie kids. I was getting attacked by a zombie kid through 1 block of cobblestone, 2 cobblestone blocks prevents the hit. 1 cobblestone block should be sufficient however.
I am having the same problem, and have created an issue. Hasn't been looked at yet, but the issue number is
MC-234547Game crashed, Exit Code: 0.After clicking on play 2 times and getting the error for no reason, clicking play a 3rd time finally let the game run normally.
