Scott - I checked my downloads and you're right, the world state is correct, it's just the spawn point, personal inventory, XP, and Ender Chest content that's wrong. I guess that's pretty much everything included in the player state. I didn't realize the actual world state was correct because I wasn't near anything I'd changed recently.
I guess one could temporarily work around it by moving all your loot and equipment from inventory and ender chest into a standard chest, and then downloading the game state, accepting that you'll just be in the wrong spawn point with all your old junk if you need to restore from that state.
