This bug report seems to have slipped through the cracks. It wasn’t updated and set to resolved, even though it has been fixed, and wasn’t marked as a duplicate either. So, if someone able to fix that sees this, it would be good if you’d do so.

This is working as intended as of now. You have to put in stained clay, and then use the modifiers (which the syntax thing calls old_replace or something like that) You have to do the same thing for logs or some planks. I'm sure it will eventually be changed to have every block as it's own unique item in those lists, but for now, this is just how it is.
I assume you had a redstone line running into the crafter, which means that just like any other solid block, the crafter would then be powered. The block isn't outputting signal, it's just conducting redstone power, a more underlying mechanic.
This is likely working as intended, as the crafter is meant to be similar to droppers/dispensers, and this is how they are placed with commands. Item output hole faces down.
I have tried on Windows 11 in Microsoft edge, and in Google Chrome. I have also tried on iOS 15.7.9 in Safari and in Google Chrome. I currently don't have a way to access developer tools, but I should in a day or two. Wish I could be of more help.
