It is not a duplicate, as it is not a temporary status when I return to the overworld. The "ghost player" status seems to be permanent, no matter how long I wait or how many blocks I interact with.
There are a series of other, smaller bugs I've had with this world as well in which my elytra won't open, or blocks are taking multiple tics to register an action and/or not registering an action at all (chests won't open, mined blocks will regenerate). I'd appreciate whatever insight you can offer.
I appreciate you looking into it! I've played the game for several years and never had such a weirdly specific bug. Thanks so much for running this to ground!

No, I generated a new world in 1.14.2 and did not run into this issue. This only seems to be an issue in the world I began prior to updating.
