I was making a large map, a 3x3 grid, as I explored the maps to reveal them the game maxed out memory and crashed. This has happened to me 3 times already.
What I expected to happen was the memory would be cleared as I explored the world to allow for more chunks and such to load, letting more of the maps be revealed.
What actually happened was was the memory maxed, teetered between 96-100%, then crashed.
Steps to reproduce
1. Create several large maps 2048 blocks apart.
2. Start revealing maps
3. Memory usage teeters between 96-100%
4. Reveal maps for an hour to two hours at least.
*During last crash music attempted to play. On second crash music was turned off however.Edit:
Here is the Crash Report:

I've had six cats sitting in a single area and they have stayed around no issue for the last three updates, but my sitting tamed wolves have consistently despawned, most currently on the 1.5.1 update. I am playing on an SMP server, and am virtually the only one playing on it consistently.
Thank goodness! Now we will be able to tame them for good! Hopefully...I wonder what was causing it to happen again too.
I have had a similar issue with large maps in a single player world I created. I don't know if it may be related to the number of chunks that are loaded or what. But I created three large maps in a row, and found that each of my maps stopped functioning once I went off the frames after creating them. I tried just exit to the start menu then loading the world again from there and they were still nonfunctional. But once I exited the entire program and reloaded it from the launcher, the maps worked again.
Could a way to update/reload/refresh maps, maybe an F# key or something, even possibly a function that runs when a player switches to a map? Just a thought.
I am currently running the 1.7 prerelease.
I just added it. It helps...
