there are several reports annd you close it because not enough info i dont have sound literally im im sorry for this but i like mincraft a lot and ienjoy listening to the sound so i need help try to figure it out please and thank you
i have a 10.5.8 and i have te same problem this should be a major issue

my computer cant process mods so theres no way that could be right
do you want me to delete the entire folder?
i have a 10.5.8 computer thats why my java is outdated but ill try the force update
i also figured out that the method to fixing the sound on my minecraft is bugging up the rails so this all leads back to my minecraft.jar folder
force update wasnt the problem this method to fixing the sound was http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1483288 that should be the link i cant open java jar files so i have to compress the folder that might be what the problem is
i will add another bug about the sound if i need to
