If I'm doing it right, here is another area. In the mission 'Set up camp' there is a slab with the objective-icon. To the left of it, a tree is visible on low ground. From where you approach the slab, if you keep going and around the bushes, you can walk to this area. If you then walk and drop of the edge near the edge of the map, you'll fall and can drop to your death and respawn. If you drop in front of the tree, you can are then stuck.
I can confirm this, I had the same. I solved it by creating a new character, and then deleting the old one. I don't know what it means for progress though.
