Old chests disappear when updating to 1.8+
The bug
When updating a map from Beta 1.3 to 1.12.2, All chests on the map are deleted. An update to update analysis reveals it occurs at 1.8.
How to reproduce
- Create a world in beta 1.7.3 or earlier
- Place a chest
- Place some items in it
- Load the world into the latest Minecraft version
→
Chest will be deleted
Notes
I did testing and the problem occurs with chests placed in beta 1.7.3 and earlier. Chests placed in later updates seem to continue existing into 1.12.2.
There was an issue made about this before but was closed without resolution as a "duplicate" when the issue it was a duplicate of was a render issue, not a total chest deletion problem.

Is the chest actually deleted? Or does it just turn invisible?
They are physically gone. The location of the chests is replaced with air blocks
What happens if you place a chest in beta 1.7.3, then load it in an intermediate version (1.5, say) and then load it in 1.12.2?
Chests placed in beta 1.7.3 or earlier stay intact up to updates 1.7.10, but updating past that deletes them even with an intermediate update.
This occurs providing you havent interacted or loaded them. There was an instance I havent been able to replicate where the chests near my player on the map did change to the minecraft:chest format but the chests further out of loading range remained in Chest format and were deleted in 1.8+
Confirmed for 1.13.1-pre1
Confirmed for 1.13.1
This is actually a duplicate of
MC-70813, which was never actually fixedI think this problem has been fixed with
MC-158853. I tried loading a beta 1.7.3 world in 19w37a and the chests loaded perfectly fine while in 1.14.4, the chests disappeared.Confirmed fixed in 19w37a.
