I spawned in a villager with a lectern to see if he still offer a lantern, as my other post, MC-148485 (A librarian offer a lantern), but he keeps on getting the job and losing it. I found the problem, he can't keep his trade on a half block.
That's intentional. Different villagers of the same profession have varying trades.
Such as weaponsmith and toolsmith trading bells
How do you read at night without a lantern?
