after installing Snapshot 12w49a all animals where gone. Was working fine before the new snapshot.

there are no differences in the snapshots that you took except the position of the animals.
Cannot reproduce neither in SMP nor in CSP.
All animals there.
Please force a crash by pressing F3 + C for 10 seconds and attach the crash report here.
Me neither. Created a superflat world, spawned all kinds of animals, updated to snapshot - still there.
This ticket is invalid as it relates to a modded or 3rd party client/server.
