Blocked IP's on api.mojang.com broke single player
I have recently been playing around on my single player game, and decided to play around with player heads. After a lot of heads, every single player I tried to get a head for was just a steve skin. I did anyone from myself to friends to mojang employee names. Every single time it appeared as a steve skin. I used the command "/give hcherndon 397 1 3
{SkullOwner:"hcherndon"}" An image of what it looks like has been provided. Thanks, hcherndon
Edited with correct scenario after realizing I typed a few commands wrong.

Blocked IP's on api.mojang.com broke single player
I have recently been playing around on my single player game, and decided to play around with player heads. You do not type username, you should type your MineCraft name, that is why ti is saying he user cannot be found.
Oh lol. One sec, I'll reproduce it using the correct name.
Changed to correct imaging.
please force a crash by pressing f3+c for 10 seconds and attach the report
Attached a forced crash report from request.
can you see if the bug occures in 1.7.10 or the 1.8 snapshots?
Version wouldn't matter, it's the Mojang skin servers denying my IP.
still you should try, it could give an diffrent result, also make sure there is no firewall blocking the conection
I will try here in a second. Firewalls are not an issue, it was working earlier. Attaching image for both 1.7.10 and 1.8
well, I'm out of ideas
As far as I'm aware this is due to Mojang rate-limiting a critical API of theirs recently, I'm not 100% sure why...
Please do not mark unreleased versions (anything starting with "Future Version") as affected. You don't have access to them yet.
Sorry, didn't know if it was referring to snapshots or not. Updated versions to add the other snapshot version.
After having this issue: Please attach the complete output of the "Development console" which can be found on the second tab of the launcher.
If the launcher closes after game start, please edit your profile and select "Launcher visibility" then, "Keep the launcher open".
Attaching console output by request, uploading an image of my client next.
Reuploading Console.txt, removing some spam chat while on servers to keep the log clean. I also noticed, while I was on a server, there was the same exception that was happening while on singleplayer.
There is something blocking access between your Minecraft client and Mojang's servers, probably a firewall, anti virus, parental control software or similar:
Eventually you're getting blocked for DOSing the Mojang servers:
This is a technical support issue; this site is for bug reports only. For technical support please use the Mojang Support Center.
I have no firewall, anti-virus or parental control software between my computer and the outer world. I control my internet in full.
I'm getting blocked for playing the game? I feel this isn't a technical support issue.
Anyway, this is no bug.
This isn't a technical issue, this is a bug with the rate-limiting of the API by Mojang.
While it might be technically a DOS, it's a very low threshold they've set. This bug report serves to prove that they are harming vanilla gameplay with their rate-limiting.
In 1.7.9 / 1.7.10 sending two requests within a few minutes triggers the "too many requests" message, while I have not had this problem in the snapshots.
