After hitting an enemy 2 times, the last hit will give reach and you can hit someone who with the first two attacks wasn't reachable and if you continue to attack the same target after the last hit then the first two hits will also reach.
- hit the closest training dummy two times with a sword
- hit the training dummy that has a hole around it
- keep hitting the dummy with a hole

Can confirm. However, this only works with weapons that use the same attack animation as the regular "Sword". The third attack in the combo is a thrust, which would make sense for its longer range. See attachment for example.
This doesn't look like a bug, the last attack is a stab and it goes directly towards the dummy while the other attacks are side slashes. Maybe Mojang meant for that to happen?
