MCL-17136launcher 2.2.2159 is stuck at "preparing after updating laucher on ubuntu
after updating the MC launcher today on using the ubuntu/debian download from alternative downloads, minecraft will not get past the "preparing stage".
If i go into the .minecraft folder and delete the assest folder it starts with "downloading" and it will work, nothing else seems to fix this. This issue did not happen until i updated the launcher.

i have the same issue, I described it in MCL-17136 . i have seen a lot of people with this issue on reddit too. Anyway, a work-around is to go into the minecraft folder, go into assets, indexes, then delete the .json files inside. This step needs to be repaeated each and every time before u launch minecraft otherwise it gets stuck indefinitely at preparing. Most reports of this issue just get marked as a duplicate of MCL-17030. The difference is that in MCL-17030 the launcher does load after a few hours, here it doesn't load at all.

I think this could be a separate issue to
MCL-17030for a few reasons. firstly MC launcher does not load at all as a pose to a gradual and extremely slow loading inMCL-17030, it does not reach the "download phase", only the "preparing phase", if i delete the 1.16.5.json file in indexes within the assest folder it loads without issue. with this issue the system does not recognise it as downloading while inMCL-17030it does. The issue inMCL-17030has been persistent since Feb 22 2021, while this issue has only been persistent since the 1st/2nd March. the issue i have seems to be duplicated ofMCL-17131rather thanMCL-17030.
