Can you please upload launcher_log file from minecraft folder in your application support?
Also uninstall the Launcher, delete minecraft folder (copy its content elsewhere before deletion) and then reinstall, restart your computer. Then please try to boot the Launcher.
Does the icon bounce at least once when you try to launch it? Is it possible to update your operating system?

Hello, the icon does bounce at least once when I try to launch it. It is not possible for me to update my operating system (OS X 10.10.5) as it is the last supported OS for this machine. The launcher still did not work properly after I followed your steps. I have attached my launcher_log file to the bug report.

OS X Yosemite (10.10.5) is no longer supported, you will need at least macOS Mojave (10.14.6) to play Minecraft.

You should still be able to play older versions of Java on the Launcher.
What I suggest is to delete minecraft folder on your Mac, uninstall the Launcher, download the Launcher once more from minecraft.net and then install it once again.
Please also downgrade your Java.
