Confirmed (with resistance 5). This also happens with Wither Skeletons; the Wither effect seems to ignore Resistance for some reason.
Confirmed in 1.2.3.6.
Resistance only stops fall damage, blast damage, and fire damage.
Fixed in 1.6.0.30.
