Overview
Hi,
I discovered today (unfortunately for the hardcore world I started) that Piglins attack you on the condition that the player places a chest in the nether and opens it themselves, even if said player wears gold armor. A video of this bug recreated has been added. More evidence can be provided if necessary. I have a good chunk of free time with the school cancellations happening.
UPDATE: The same happens when wearing Gold Armor, but a player breaks a chest.
Steps to recreate
- Open a world.
- Go to the nether.
- Find some piglins.
- Ensure difficulty isn't on peaceful.
- Go into survival mode.
- Place a chest.
- Open the chest.
- Wait for death.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Buy out a villager's stock of any item (until the red X appears over the arrow in the left sidebar.)2. Pick up that item with the mouse and drag it over to the 3rd slot in the trading menu.
3. Ensure that you still have enough to purchase the item if it were in stock.
4. Hovering over the 3rd, now empty, slot, left click as if you were picking up more of that item on the crafting menu.
The trade should still give you the item despite the fact that it's out of stock.
This only works on stackable items.

UPDATE: Video of it happening, apologies for the delay and lack of thorough testing. Oddly inconsistent.[^2023-02-22 21-28-11 - Trim.mkv]

UPDATE: It's more complicated than that but I lost internet while trying to upload the video

UPDATE: I apologize for the lack of thorough testing before submitting. Here's a video of the bug.
If it's any help, I noticed in the entities disappear at the same time as the player's body in 3rd person (at least in 23w05a, where I have confirmed the bug) so that's probably related to the cause.
