I have just tested the fix, but no change to the issues I raise under 4797. As per the comment above either L3 does absolutely nothing, on one account, or only clones of P1s players are available on another account. Version 1.09 did not fix the problem for me.
Having had no joy with the 1.09 update and updating to PS4 8.01, I persisted for a few days waiting for an update but to no result.
My girlfriend and I were working around the problem by using my PS4 account to play local multi-player. She cloned my character because her character was not available on my account (on the same local machine) and L3 would not work for me on her account. She had not registered with PSN and so was not logged into a PSN account whereas I have had a PSN account for a long time and so I was logged into that by default. Today I created her a OSN account via my PC and then she logged into it on the PS4 and set up her PSN settings. I also added her to my PSN family account.
We shut down and re-started the PS4 and then checked out Minecraft Dungeons. Her character is now available on my account in local mulltiplayer and mine is when she runs Mincraft Dungeons from her account locally. The L3 button now works properly for both of us.
If you are having problems it may be worth creating PSN logons for each player that want to play local mulitplayer and see if it works for you.
Will, with reference to my report above, the workaround seems to be that Minecraft Dungeons needs to be started by a player with a PSN account and the joining player needs to have a PSN account. I don't know why this seems to be needed for local coop play but that is what seems to have happened. You did not cover this option in your description explicitly so I just thought I would mention it.
Adam, I was just talking about making sure each player has a normal PSN login. That means that the PS4 can login to the playstation network for that user in addition to their local login. I do have a PSPlus account myself in addition to my PSN Account but that was not what I was talking about,

As of yesterday I have the same problem on minecraft dungeons on ps4. It was working very well up until then.
The games asks p2 to press L3 to join but does not respond to L3 being pressed.
