Try pressing down on the left joystick and see if that works. (I am also just a player.)
Can confirm, pressing down on left joystick works despite on-screen instruction saying otherwise.
I tried pressing down on the left joystick and it does not work for me.
I solved the problem and have additional information which could assist in solving this bug.
When playing on the console with joy cons attached, the second controller I hook up duplicates the controls of the first. That is, the first (attached) and second (wireless) joy cons control player one. When I hook up a third joy con, this third joy con will start a local multiplayer game with a second player when I push down on the left joystick.
Beyond this unexpected behavior, it is imperative that you differentiate between the “L button” and the “depress the left thumb stick”. Using the text “L button” to refer to the left thumbstick violates Switch button-naming convention.
Not able to add second player
As of yesterday I have the same problem on minecraft dungeons on ps4. It was working very well up until then.
The games asks p2 to press L3 to join but does not respond to L3 being pressed.
Can confirm same issue on PS4. Purchased the game today and it worked fine for a couple of hours. Then, after console restart, no option to play local Co-Op. Hiting L3 does nothing. When I log in with the "Second" user and try to add the "First" one it works but all progression is lost.
Sane issue on switch. I was able to use a third controller but then it stopped working after the game locked up. Please fix
