The title says it all. This goes well together with the other issue where additional sociable zombies are spawned upon one taking fire damage. In the nether, they tend to do so, and soon the nether gets overrun with an army of zombies.Report
Summary
When Pigmen take damage (I'm not sure about damage from the player any more, but I definitely saw it happening with damage from a Ghast.) , there is a chance (Depending on difficulty setting it seems) that a zombie will spawn in the Nether.
Steps to reproduce
- Be in the Nether.
- Set the game difficulty on 3.
- Make yourself invincible somehow.
- Spawn a bunch of pigman and ghasts.
- Go to Survival mode.
- Let the ghasts hit the pigmen.
Whenever I try this, zombies will always spawn at one point.

Personally I had it happen when a ghast shot a pigman. Others have had it happen when they themselves where the source of damage.Steps to reproduce
- Be in the Nether.
- Set the game difficulty on 3.
- Spawn a bunch of pigmen.
- Go to Survival mode.
- Damage the pigmen somehow.

I've retested, and it appears to only happen when pigmen are shot by ghasts (probably other non-player damage aswell). Also, zombies seem to spawn a lot more frequently as you increase the difficulty setting.
It looks like the trapped chest does however power the block directly below it (even if the block is an air block, activating devices that are activated by powered blocks around them, like pistons, dispensers, droppers, etcetera.
