There is no such file as app.mojang.minecraftlauncher.playlist
AppCleaner does not find it and I did not find it. Looking in all the correct spots.
Meaning this file isn't where it should be, meaning that you could have given the path to this file.
How hard wuld that have been ?

I did the above and indeed it works for the current user but if you log in as a second user (my daughter for example) then you get a different error message at launch telling you that you are running minecraft from the dmg file. Which I am not. Minecraft was moved to the Applications folder.
If I re install from dmg for this user and log back in to the original user, I get the same error.
So minecraft can only be launched from one user. In order to make it work, I need to erase it from the App folder and re drag it from the dmg.
Not too fun.

It's not resolved... There needs to be a fix.
By the way, it's not changing users in mincraft, it's changing users in OS X. I'm talking OS X users, not minecraft users.
Of course each OS X user has it's own minecraft user.
I only saw this problem arise when I updated my system to El Capitan. In Yosemite, all was fine. I still have one system on Yosemite running the latest launch and it's working fine.
What do you call the legacy launcher ?
I've had this same issue with my Switch. I did find the Airplane work around but once the profile is finally loaded it still hangs when trying to play an online game and then you can't switch back to offline game. It just hangs there. But I didn't try to logout of the microsoft account first.
For those saying it doesn't work when docked. I play docked too. Just undock it while setting up the airplane mode and login to profile then turn off airplane mode and redock.

Technically it's not the same issue as this happened to me when I installed El Capitan OSX 10.11 As to the other issue is for Yosemite. 10.10...

This is not fixed with the new update this morning. I still have the same user problem. Having to re install the app in each user when I switch users.
The work around of putting minecraft in the user/application folder works great. I haven't looked back since then.
