This is working as intended
As pointed out by Ryan Ferreira you need to add a compass to the map with an anvil.
It is not a bug. Maps are different from PC version. If you add a compass in the opened map on the anvil will show where you are. If you add 8 papers in the opened map on the anvil will zoom the map.

If Minecraft is installed on the external card turn to internal card, MCPE is not supported on external card.
