I confirm this is still happening on Xbox One, Windows 10, and MCPE for iOS on realms. I have been having to download the world, switch difficulty, and re-upload the world to the realm.
This is still an issue on 1.5.3
This is still an issue on 1.6.0
As am I. This issue has been resolved. At least for me.
