Changed Summary:
Minecraftgoing over the mob limit and causing excessive mob spawningMobs going over the mob limit and causing excessive mob spawning
Added Attachments:
Changed Description:
Mobs spawning in excessive quantities and ignoring the game's creature limit, spawning is also abnormal in which mobs only spawn in groups of 4-8, and both hostile and aquatic mobs try to fill their caps instantly, treating it as a minimum rather than a maximum.

sadly don’t think i have the ones from these screenshots since i keep troubleshooting and making/deleting worlds but i could easily recreate this issue if needed
just made a new instance

yeah dont know whats happening on my end but its definitely not normal, also if you notice on your screenshot the creature count is way up left side on f3 info when the cap should be 30, sure you didn't try flying around to see the rest of the mob spawns?

while that may be the case, at least for me i can physically see the amount of extra mobs that keep spawning, not just the cap value rising, so i doubt its just dead mobs artificially adding to the cap, i forgot to add that my issue affects not just 1.20.6, but all minecraft versions, and even modded instances where it makes modded creatures spawn abnormally as well
issue is present in all chunks yeah, even across dimensions and surprisingly affects the bedrock version of the game as well, at first i thought it was a problem on my end but after trying a clean install and even factory resetting my pc the issue still persisted, would love to get this resolved as it makes the game unplayable with the amount of creatures flooding the world
I’d also like to note that increasing the render distance increases the creature cap as well, and lowering it makes the spawn rate closer to whats normally acceptable, but its all shoved into the same chunks so it still looks unnatural with all the mob grouping happening, trying to simply fly away to new chunks just makes all the mobs rapidly spawn around you yet again filling up the creature count, using /kill will immediately set the count to 0 in those chunks, but moving away will eventually fill it back up, changing the games tick speed makes them spawn notably slower, but they eventually reach high numbers either way

you genuinely think having that many passive mobs is normal? as far as im aware things dont spawn in groups of 8 at all times and fill the creature cap up to 400 mobs, i've tested this on other devices and the mob rate is not nearly as bad as this, so some sort of compatibility issue is going on
yeah genuinely just confused on what exactly is causing this as nobody else on planet earth seems to have the same issue at all and it just makes the game completely unplayable, have tried to fix everything that could possibly be causing me issues to no avail, all of my minecraft instances be it bedrock or java on all versions, have the same exact issue
after even more testing, i found out that even if you go to the world settings before creation, and turn off all mob spawns, creatures will still continue to spawn either way and completely ignore the gamerule
either I’m just ignorant and never noticed so many mobs spawning, or you aren’t realizing what I mean by ‘unplayable’, normally minecraft passive mobs are somewhat rare compared to any other mob, which is why you sometimes see constant complaints about there not being enough mobs, I have never seen the amount of mobs I’m currently having being generated in. Things like hoards of bunnies in the desert or 12 chickens spawning at once alongside 8 cows 8 sheep 8 pigs etc is something I’ve never experienced. It makes it unplayable because not only does it clog up the world visually and gameplay wise, it completely ruins my ability to mod the game as I usually do, as with the abnormal spawn rate, all modded passive spawns are hell to deal with. An example would be trying to use Alex’s mobs and just having the world be overrun by blue jays and bison, or trying to use world gen mods like terralith/tectonic and the spawns multiplying by tenfold, with the final nail in the coffin being that i cannot sanely host servers for my friends anymore, as with the spawn cap being multiplied by player, it just gets to a comical point of mobs being around, I’ve tried to use mods that limit the spawn cap like in contro to get around this issue, and yeah it limits the amount of mobs but not the generation rate of them, as if the cap is manually set back to 30 creatures then there will just be a couple groups of 8-12 of the same mob and prevents any other mob from spawning killing all variety
