JUST happened to me now. PC. Around level 30+ with power 50 gear.
Just finished up the desert temple mission, almost losing my last revive to the boss because of another glitch (the one where your movement gets locked with the potion food spawn armor enchant). Finally get to the end door almost dying to the enderman blocking the way, then mission completed. Usual countdown... from 5 seconds.
As soon as the timer counts down PC blacks out, supposedly a power cut (kernel power critical, so yes).
Rebooted, start up the game.
The game plays the opening scene, prompting to choose a skin for the new character. That's all.
No trace of the previous character.
I've tried digging through the local game files, where I found DAT files for what I assume used to be the character I had, and the new skin I just chose for the lv 1.
I assume the DAT with the 1kb file size is the character I just created, which leaves the bigger DAT file to be the character I lost. Absolutely no content within the file.
Can't restore previous version.
Recuva is a possibility, but I have not tried it yet.

Please fix.
