There are no dogs in Minecraft, only wolves. If you tame a wolf in Minecraft, it becomes a tamed wolf. Simple as that; works as intended.

The ocelot officially becomes a cat. New name, new skin colour, etc. The wolf stays a wolf, a tamed one.
Confirmed 1.12, seed "Ende" (or 2164490), coords -3400 and -5000, the one above the entrance. Seems to occur half of the time.
The texture also says wolf_tame.png and not dog.png. Nevertheless, we're gonna have to wait and see if Mojang really screwed up twice, or simply intended the tamed wolf to be a tamed wolf, as basically every english community calls it.
First part confirmed. In single player mode, Night doesn't get skipped.
