I rode a horse into water, it worked fine until it got 3 blocks deep, then I fell off as expected, but even when the horse came back to 1 deep water, right-clicking would only jerk the camera angle, not get on.
After that whenever I tried to place a block, it would only work if there was a previously destroyed block in that same space, and would turn back into that block the moment I placed any block there.
Mobs also seemed to act normal, except it was impossible to interact with them, and they didn't notice me at all.
It fixed itself when I /killed myself, but I didn't try to reproduce the bug again.
Everything was the same when I switched between Creative and Survival, except I got the block I placed back.

13w18b Single Player: My skin goes completely blank white after dying, it stays the same going to a different world, and only resets when I exit minecraaft and relaunch.
I just tested it on the same machine (2012 Mac Mini) booting Mac OS X with JRE 7 Update 40, and Minecraft 13w38c launched flawlessly.
I noticed we both have Linux - most likely we need to replace/update/install some dependacy (weird that it works for the older versions though... can we narrow it down from what they changed?)
I'm going to try it with different Linux distros using VirtualBox running on both OS X and my current Linux setup, maybe that will help narrow it down... Why don't you try this as well?
also, this will probably create more problems than it fixes, but how about running the exe version with Wine! I'll see what happens.
Minecraft runs perfectly on Linux since 1.7.2!
from Mojang: "Update: Pre-release 1.7.2 has been released to address some serious crashes, including the inability to start on some Linux computers."
it worked, whatever they did!
Sorry, I completely forgot about this bug report.
confirmed on 14w05a
How is this a duplicate of
MC-46404?They seem completely unrelated, is this a mistake?
This happens to me too when switching desktops to my minecraft window in fullscreen, the command key gets stuck until I tap it inside minecraft. (Mac OS X 10.10, Java 8), still an issue in 15w41b.
Something to note is that when the command key is stuck, not only does backspace clear entire words, but "a" selects-all, "v" pastes, and "x" cuts whatever is selected. (until pressing the command key a few times)
Allowing bubble columns to form in waterlogged blocks would be very helpful, for example when going downward in a bubble elevator. An iron bar could be placed above the magma block so as not to take damage from the magma block when you reach the bottom.
