Placed torch on wall as is the usual operation, then was able to place floating torches by placing them on the sides and front of the wall torch. Floating torches broke if any block

edit: duplicated in creative only when a block was next to space where floating torch appeared
Might have something to do with the fact that snow covered blocks show the "snowy:" field to be false on the debug screen.
