Expected behavior
(Singleplayer Behavior)
When an item is being picked up in your inventory, and the inventory closes, the item will go into the hotbar, and play an animation while doing so.
Observed/Actual behavior
On singleplayer this works fine but on servers this doesn't play at all. (Also applies if you put the item in a crafting table & close it.)

UPDATE: As of 1.21, this now doesn't even work in singleplayer, from my testing.

This isn't a duplicate, this is a different mechanic that sets your velocity to 0.
There's a video that goes over it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kLluezTCQc4&t=43s
Not the stopping fall damage part, but the resetting your momentum part
You can do the same thing with end portal frames + putting an ender eye in the slot while falling So it's definitely not intentional.
Just press F3+T at the same time to reload music
In the launcher it says it's been fixed but it still occurs
It looks even worse now considering the whole background changes completely to a wild update background, making it super jarring
This has finally been fixed in the new beta version of the launcher
They fixed this with campfires even though like Jiingy said; given there more items that also go above the black line on the hotbar makes the campfire/soul_campfire fix pointless (even swords go above the black line...)
Please don't delete my comments. This change should be reverted, something simillar happened in 1.17 when they switched around the creative mode/hardcore buttons on the world creation screen, it was annoying and no one liked it so they reverted it. There's no reason to conflict with 9 years of muscle memory.
It's not invalid, it's mismatched
Can confirm: 23w17a.
Can confirm in: 1.20 Pre-release 2.
This is NOT a feedback request. It belongs on the bug tracker! That's like saying all the other many texture changes that have been from bug reports were invalid.
Yeah, re-open
Can confirm in: 23w46a.
Workaround doesn't work for me either :/
Can confirm in 1.21.3, I also noticed this same issue in the Loom GUI as well.
Edit: Nevermind, Loom GUI must have been fixed since the last time I checked.
Can confirm in 1.21.4. This issue also affects the stripped variant too.
