So me and my friend were pig riding and having a ton of fun doing it (it's our favorite 1.4.2 feature) when we tried to cross a river, and the pig just fell into the water and did nothing. We were very disappointed because our base is surrounded by rivers.

I can confirm this. Perhaps the pig has too much weight on it to swim. What happens if someone else holds a carrot or a carrot on a stick in front of the pig?
