Right clicking a lodestone with a stack of compasses converts the whole stack
Interacting with a lodestone while holding more than one compass in your hand will link the entire stack to the lodestone, instead of converting one compass at a time as expected.

This is duplicate of MC-176029. Don't know if it's WAI or not though; the sentence quoted above only says about one compass.

We're actually already tracking this issue in MC-176029, so I resolved and linked this ticket as a duplicate.

A possible fix might be making Compass unstackable, like other items that can be used by right-clicking.
