MC-209489Invisible mobs
I found an bug where mobs (mostly hostile) are not visible and produce no sound. I've died multiple times by invisible creatures without know where they are at all. Because of this i've lost hours and hours of work. I hope this gets fixed soon, it ruins a part of the experience.

Yep, that's the issue. I'm not sure exactly why this happens, but OptiFine modifies the way you interact with the world. This is definitely an issue with OptiFine, and is being tracked on the OptiFine bug tracker here, and on Mojira (this bug tracker) as
MC-193509.
